The Learning Tree is a fully vetted non-profit 501 (c) (3) Community Based Organization that was established in 2006 by a group of teachers in the District of Columbia who were concerned about the historically and increasingly widening achievement gap that exists between racially and economically diverse student groups in the District of Columbia Public Schools. Our program addresses this disparity by providing opportunities for traditionally underrepresented student groups to have more exposure to advanced levels of science, technology, engineering and math activities in addition to after school homework assistance and remedial instruction. 

​The driving force that strengthens our program is the experience and skills of the highly qualified administrators, teachers and paraprofessionals.
 

It is our belief that children can be intrinsically motivated to learn in a milieu that is nurturing and supportive; that fosters inquiry and discovery; and provides opportunities for constructive communication and team building with their peers and their teachers.
